Finally, the second semester. Now that I have submitted my Original Work, I have looked over it to see what specifically bothered me about the project I turned in. After having listed everything I want to improve about my app, I have begun to start from scratch in the sense that I have drawn out the improved designs I want in a sketchbook similar to how I drew out my initial designs when first developing the app.
As I am touching up these new designs for my app, one thing I have been especially focusing on is typography. Over the winter break I got the opportunity to interview Andy Vera, a UI Designer at The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) who has a broad history in graphic design, UI, and UX and one aspect of UX that she emphasized was typography. Typography is the art of arranging elements of letters and fonts to be easily readable and appealing to users. Andy explained to me that she had gotten hired to her current position as a UI Designer for Apple because of her typography work and heavily stressed the importance of typography as well as how ignored it is in most UX. Thankfully, Ms. Kristen Kirk gifted me one of her books on typography so I have been studying that novel while editing these new designs.
Now that it is the second semester and I am touching up my current designs, I am now more excited than I have ever been throughout this process as I am starting to see my work the way that I want it to look. I plan to finish this app design in about two weeks so that Mason and I can discuss the designs, I can ask Andy her thoughts on the app, make any necessary changes, then go into the coding process of the journey. I am so close to the finish line in terms of my major contribution to this project and I cannot wait to get to the next steps in the app development process.
